Tiger Pistol Shrimp Revisted ?'s

Ok so Ive had the TPS and Gobie pair for a few months now. When observed in the LFS for at least a month he had built them a nice little den with all kinda materials they had supplied.

In my tank, they have found a rock which is great to make a den.. the thing is He has no materials so the den keeps caving in and he keeps making huge huge mounds on one side of my tank. Ive had people say that once they establish their cave they dont push around as much sand.

THing is I have yet to find the right building material for him. I have given him some crushed coral substrate, but he just brings it in his cave... Apparently finding it no use and just hauls it right back out wiggles his little Antenas and goes back in.

Could anyone suggest some good building material for htis little guy so he can supe up his little Den without it collapsing on him so much? and so I can stop getting mad at him every morning when I find a 7 inch high pile of Sand wheres hes just mined the poop out of the entire area heh.

TIA

Joe

Joe,

I got my TPS at Christmas last year. He has settled into a routine of about 4 "doors" that he alternates every day or two. He does still move a lot of sand around these entrances, but not nearly as much as the first two weeks. A material that mine really likes (i.e. it disappears, never to be seen again) is sand dollar pieces.

I had about 12-15 sand dollars that we had collected on a trip to the beach. I bleached them out to make Christmas tree ornaments, only to have most of them break. I soaked and rinsed the pieces A LOT and put them in the tank.

On some days, you can see them forming the walls of the tunnel.

HTH
