I set up my 90g with a tidepool II in July. I wish I had more room in it. Once you place your heater and protein skimmer and pump for it ( I have an Aqua C EV 90), you run out of room. Otherwise, it works fine. My readings are all zero ( nitrate and nitrites). I have heard others say to take out the bio-wheel if they start to rise, but mine has not yet. I like the trays for filtration and one for carbon.

Overall, I am happy with mine.

I think if you have an adaquate DSB in the main tank, nitrates produced by the biowheel should stay reasonable. If the nitrates are not controlled adaquately by the sandbed/live rock then it would have to be removed, which, IMO, would be a waste of money since that is primarily what you are paying for in the Tidepool. Without the biowheel, you might as well use a Rubbermaid tub for a sump. Just my .02.

It never ceases to amaze me that more vendors and manufacturers arent reading Boards like these. I know that some like Icecap and others do but why doesnt MarineLand and some of the other big manufacturers have someone surfing to see what the reefers want. The Tidepool II is a good example, not really a bad idea but could be made larger to accomodate serious skimmer and more equipment.
Eclipse is another prime example, they could redesign there hoods with a couple PC lights and ditch the wheel using a clone of the Remora or something and basically a turnkey nano reef.
Those who have been in the hobby for a while and belong to several BB's know that Reefers spend Money and Reefers spend Time making or modifying things to work right

I have a Tidepool on my 90 reef and I agree that it is way too small. The only reason I am using it is because the tank was already established when i added it and it was the only thing I could fit through the doors on the stand. It is full, and the only equipment in it are the return pump, and a heater. The skimmer is hanging on the side of the sump. I also wish I had more water volume in the sump. With 850 gallons per hour running through the sump the water is really churned up and it causes my return pump to return bubbles into the tank. I would use a rubbermade tub and save the money for other reef accessories.
