Threaded barb fittings are difficult to screw into PVC

I can only seem to get the gray barb fitting to screw half way into the PVC threads. The barb fittings are the gray hose type ones found in HD or Lowes. I understand the the threads may be tapered, but I would imagine that they should screw completely in. Any help?

No they shouldn't go all the way in,spiecialy if you got teflon on the threads. If it went in all the way you mite not have a tight seal.

Thanks. I suspected that but I wanted to be sure. I came across http://mywebpages.comcast.net/mboenisch/AGA90.html and noticed that the pictures on the bottom of this site seemed to have barbed fittings that were screwed all the way down.

I've noticed that, they only get halfway in; pretty annoying, but normal.

This set up is pretty nice.
