Thoughts on my QT setup?

I was able to buy a JBJ 12g nanocube for $30 for my QT tank. (I know I sound like a broken record, but gotta love the local reef club!) When I added more LR to my main display, I took what I'd guess is 10-12 lbs of LR and added it the nanocube with 50% water from the display and 50% newly made RO/DI SW. Since I put cured rock in, I'm assuming there won't be much of cycle, but will keeping this running be sufficient? here is the summary of the tank right now:

12g JBJ nano (stock PC lighting, stock pump)
10-12 lbs LR
100 micron filter sheet (inserted when needed)
bare bottom

I plan on doing frequent water changes when it has fish, so I don't have to buy a skimmer.

Anything else I need to make it a good QT? I have a seio 820 I could throw in but I'm worried this would be too much flow for this size.

Also, I'm wondering when I should start using it. Right now I have one fish in my display - a royal gramma that has proven over the years to be indestructible (previous owner thought he was lost when upgrading tanks, turns out he lived for a few weeks in a trash can of saltwater in their garage, and he was the only fish to survive my heater malfunction leading to 93 degree temp). Is there any reason really to QT the next fish I add? I'm thinking they will go straight to the display, then I'll do QT with subsequent fish.

Remove the LR and put some cut PVC or a terra cotta pot inside instead. The LR can cause problems

why would LR cause problems? Don't really know what I'd do with it either...

LR can hide, hold, and house disease and problems. just think of a hospital. they keep it as clean as possible but also keep anything out that may cause dirt or anything. LR can cause problems

I agree take the LR out. Any copper will kill anything living in/on it and be very bad to put back in your display

There is no room for it in the display I guess I could sell it but hate to do that, plus its in my home office and I want it to look decently attractive...so what kind of diseases can remain in the water? If I do water changes and have no livestock in there b/t fish, won't most fish diseases die out w/o a host? i.e. I havent heard of the organisms on LR contracting the same diseases as fish (the same way you wouldnt worry about a dog getting you sick)...I know ich will stay in the water column for example, but that isn't on the live rock. I'm not doubting you guys, just trying to understand more concretely what the risks are. Thanks!
