This moon light stuff is ticking me off!

Okay, I NEVER had moon lights on my old set up, but after dropping a pretty penny on my current set up... (when I get in a few weeks, I'll post pics, I promise...) I'm wondering if I do the moonlights or not. This is totally new to me. I will say one thing... I had, (and will have) power compacts on my old system, and when they were about to shut off, I had one blue atinic light come on, the older type of long tube on a cheapy ballast, just to give me that really low blue tone that made everything glow. To be honest, I saw a friends with that for the first time, (and a clam) and that's what drew me to the hobby. So, at the very least, I'll do that again. But now, all this moonlight crap!
LED or no LED? How many for a 180? How many "moon watts" for 180 gallons?

Man, I go away for a few years, and all kinds of madness starts happening!

I don't think there are any hard fast rules on moonlights, its basically a mood light for reefers, even if you have moonlight tied into a puterized controller that mimics the lunar cycles, and you found the perfect light setup for your tank, you would have to factor in the species of corals, all the other environmental factors, (temp,sg, etc) to have repeatable spwning incidents.
For a kewl viewing light you could add enough blue leds to get the effect you want(or cheap tubular blue aquarium bulbs for that matter) on a cheapo timer
