can't be funnier than the magnetic level of algae...but basically detritus is a whole lotta nasty stuff...like fish poo (a technical term i swear) basically its a lot of gross stuff floating around...thats why its bad.

I am not sure if I have it right but it looks like plain old dirt. Use the turkey baster around your rocks and if you have Arogonite or another DSB it is that stuff. I still don't see how a clean up crew can keep up with it and vacuum the top of the sandbed.

It is the micro version of debris. Any foreign debris on your rocks, sand/gravel that cannot be identified as being something is detritus.

And like already said, it's waste, and in general that is bad.

netafish,
detritus is bad because it's loaded with phosphates and other nutrients which can cause algae problems if not removed from the system.
