This a good deal?
125 gallon rr tank
oak stand
hamilton 3 x 250 MH w VHO actnics lighting
1200 bucks
I went and checked it out today, All the stuff is basically brand new no scratches etc
It also comes with a wet/dry and a skimmer but both of those I would end up trading out.

Got any pics??
I kind of agree with Devilboy........BUT the term "oak stand" can describe quite an broad range of furniture value, and if it was a really nice one both in being overbuilt and craftmanship......that can throw a $500+ variance easy in what a system can be worth IMO. Is this with a canopy too i assume??

glass or acrylic?
"a good deal" is in the eye of the buyer
'cause, you'll only buy it if you think it's a good deal
the lights could be worth $500-$1500, depending on how there mounted
I'll agree, oak stand can mean a lot of things

It didn't have the canopy but I don't think you can use one cause you have to hang the lights, that seem right?
I don't have any pics but the stand kinda looks like the one in y our Avatar Fly Guy

if you need to mount the lights, no canopy, and used
might not be that good of a deal
when I sold off one of my tanks, I got about 1/3 of what it would have cost new

Also its a glass tank but I'm telling you guys this stuff was "like new"
its the 6ft long 125 gal with the dual overflows that are in the middle not on the side, also with the MH fixture being 6 ft long,
The thing that kept crossing my mind was that at the LFS just the tank and stand would be probably a grand and I was thinking these lights also have to at least be a grand?

A canopy is a must IMO. Unless you like your lights distracting from whats in the tank as well as just being obnoxious.
just my opinion of course
Id offer him 800-1000 and see if you can get a canopy built to match.
I understand what this stuff costs new........but look around...........used stuff typically costs 50% of retail.......75% if its in perfect condition

he can always say no, and ask $1200 again

thats really not that bad of a deal, certainly much less than you can get it all at a lfs, but much more than you can usually find used gear, if your looking for a tank, keep your eyes peeled, you can probably get a whole set up, with live rock and fish for not much more.

Mike I'd say keep looking....seems high for a used tank. Get more info about the brand of lights and the tank and stand. I see deals in the paper here for 125's with everything including LR and corals for about that or less depending on the equipment.
