thinking of starting over....

should I? or should i not? that is the question. i want to start over with just live sand and not a live sand/crushed coral mix, and then i want to clean up the live rock a little bit since, there seems to be some detrius on it.

Wait, Why? What makes you think about starting over?

Or you could just remove the rock and 75% of the water, hold that in a rubber maid container, then suck the substrate out, replace it, then put the rock/water back in with 25% new water and call it an involved water change.

No need to get rid of everything, then buy all new and start over IMHO.

Suger sized grain sand. I got mine at HD but you can get it from the LFS if you have a small tank and don't mind spending extra for the fancy ariganite stuff.

Provided you have about 1Lb per gallon LR, most of the bio filtration is done in your rock, so be sure not to let it dry out, and you should be fine in the holding tank and when you get back into the main tank. (Note the words SHOULD BE FINE, it doesn't always work that way, but it always has for me Knock on wood)

Wiskey, HD sand? What kind are you talking about? Do you have any links. I would like to add more to my existing LS.

I was putting a DSB in a large tank, needed like 500 LBS of sand.

I was not going to pay $1.50 per pound Espeically when a DSB is only good for 3-5 years normally.

I just used silica sand I liked the look and feel of and ran with it. Worked great.

Oh, edit to say I think I payed a grand total of $50 for all the sand I needed.

Black acrylic botom. mmmm Love them.Actually I use black acrylic on the sides and back, but I keep them up with magnets so I can see through when I need to. I would like to spend more time with some one with a faux sand bed too though. So far black acrylic bottom is my favorite though.
