At that distance it should be fine... but you are the engineer
Fluid and heat dynamics and theory should be easy for you. I could tell you how to beat it into submission

Nope, I've told you before, I hated thermodynamics. Blech. Give me dynamics any day, but keep heat transfer to yourself.

It's not clamped, it's routed behind the PVC drain, which can't move. I think it'll be good.

I noticed the other day that I had a good amount of rust on the screws of my Mag 9.5 return pump, which is only a few months old. I called danner, and without asking me how old the pump was or anything else, said "oh, that shouldnt happen... we'll send you some new screws." That was a little too easy! I've known about this problem generically with mag drive pumps, but I'm not overly concerned about a little iron oxide exposure. I'll swap them out to play it safe, though.

Hmmm. Maybe I need to check my Mag12 next time I am around it to see what it has done as far as rusting I have never paid attention to it before now.

I made about 20 frags today and stuck them down in the sump. The first batch seem to be doing ok, I've even noticed a little encrusting on them, so I thought I'd fill it out and let them sit for a while. Some of them are pretty big (the bali slimers), but it was overgrowing another coral. Otherwise, I snipped the poccilipora, scripps, blue/pink milli, hairy milli, and others which I've never fragged before.
I'm going to try to get some tank pics later today, as I've not taken any in about a month. The only other change is that the tiny little convict tang vaporized somehow overnight. Never saw it, which was odd as it seemed to be eating quite well. Probably a bit too small, though. I thought about trying another one, but I'm quite content with the tank as it is, and I feel like I just need to leave things alone for a while. Maybe some more pics this evening.

Some pictures, as hoped. First, it's been a few months since there was a decent FTS, so here's an updated one.
And a snail.

Last two, a zoomed in picture of the yellow slimer and then a picture of the anemone crab.
