The strangest thing happened with my bristle worms today

Does anybody out there know a lot about bristle worms? while i was doing a regular cleaning today i noticed bristle worms were out, a lot of them they usually come out at night. i ignored it and then when i was scrubbing a powerhead i noticed somthig floating through the water and it looked like smoke in the water. Then all within 30 seconds all of the bristle worms started shooting out this strange substance and the whole tank and sump was cloudy white in minutes. i think the worms were just reproducing but im still pretty clueless has anyone seen or heard of this before? please let me know.

lots of polychaetes (marine worms) reproduce like that...all at once. most of the time its triggered by moon cycles or some other seasonal queue. might have been a nice snack for corals or filter feeders.

has anyone else observed this in a tank?

its a spawning event, but like most marine inverts, they just release their 'seed' into the water column, their strategy is for everyone to do it at the same time...insert worm sex joke here
