The snail effect

Just thought I would post some pictures to show what my tank at work looked like before and after I added a ton of snails from Keys Critters. The Bryopsis growth was out of control and it grew as fast as I could pull it out by hand. The pictures aren't great but I think they do a nice job in showing what a difference the snails made.

don't worry about having all those snails unless they start writing messages in the front glass algae...

Sometimes I catch the snails holding meetings on top of the powerheads. Should I be concerned?

Hmmm, this is very interesting, Barry, it is usally very difficult to find something that will eat bryopsis. Did you notice which species of snail was eating this?

Steve: It was pretty much entirely the Astreas. You just need to get enough of them. That tank is about 40g and has about 75 astreas and 200 small ceriths. I don't think it is a coincidence that the astreas are eating the bryopsis. That algae came in on some aquacultured Fl rock and that's where the snails are from as well.

ROTFL As you can see from the second picture, they are making a coordinated effort to keep me from cleaning the front glass.

Heh! If you get concerned about them getting a little rowdy, then put a nice copperbottomed chafing dish with drawn butter and chopped garlic in front of the aquarium...

...then open a bottle of Stag's Leap Chardonnay and put out stemware...

Briopsa-whatever-is, that's hair alge right? If so then, send your trouble makers to my tank to clear up my ongoing infestation. Once a minor problem has now become borderline epidemic.
