Hey tim- what lifts are you talking about? The racks for the rocks? if so they took about two weeks to build since I tore them apart about three times before I came upon a configuration I liked. I should take a few close-ups of the styrofoam rock work. I had Eric Borneman over and showed him the styrofoam rock and he couldn't tell the difference between the "fake" rock and the real rock placed around it even though it was only 12 inches away from him.
Ranran The skimmer is made by Spazz who is a regular contributing member here at TRT. His phone number is 612-387-7377. He's the best one to call with any questions. I know his skimmer uses a modified Dart pump and is supercharged with an Alita 80 airpump to get around 300 cfm which is pretty incredible considering it only uses 190 watts and is skimming over 100, maybe even 125 gallons in the main skimmer chamber. For comparison most "efficient" skimmers will pull a max of 48 cfm on 360 watts. The average size of the main chamber in these skimmers is usually only 12-48 gallons(dependent on the brand). So this VOLCANOE is doing about 6 times the work at half of the electrical consumption for similarly rated skimmers.
I guess I'm really impressed because the skimmer has saved my tank on two occasions. Once I put in 300 large
mexican turbo snails(think golfball sized). All of them died within a day(shipping shock). The top to the skimmer literally blew off. I had to use a 5lb weight to hold it on. The bubbles were actually pushing the top completely off the skimmer and onto the floor. The tank never suffered any spikes although nearly 30 lbs of snails died at once.- ( I couldn't pull them out because they crawled into the rocks at the back of the tank and died.)
