Great tank Bob, congrats. A well deserved honor.
I'm interested in hearing how you started the tank. Things like how long did you cycle, when did you add your first fish or corals. Things like that. I'm in the early stages of my new tank and would be very interested in the beginnings of a TOM. Its something that is usually left of the description but, at least I think, would be very interesting.

Thanks again guys! Mapster to answer your question, the tank was the last in a series of upgrades from a 44 gal on up. The 300 replaced a 125 in the same location. I didn't start from scratch, just switched out the tanks and used all of the old sand and rock. All the fish and corals went in the same tank too. I used about 75 gal of old water and the rest was new. I did the switch over a weekend and didn't get any noticable spikes in the #'s and no cycles. Except for a few small patches of red cyano about a month after the start up, everything went smooth. In a few months I will be draining the tank to remove the dsb and will be rearanging the aquascaping. I don't expect any cycles with that. I will put everything into kiddie pools and rubbermaid containers with lots of circulation.

Your tank looks wonderful. Congratulations
Hi RWD-
First, congrats to you for being picked the tank of the month. I remember your site when you documented the build of your 300gal. It's wonderful to see how well your tank progressed since you built it. Rather than send many questions to you via this thread, I'd like to send you an email. Here's my address; mambomongo@bellsouth.net. I'm looking to build a large tank and will keep sps/lps. Again, congratulations. Look forward to hearing from you.
Mambo

Thanks a lot mambo! Yes the old site is gone. It would be perfectly fine to ask any questions here, that is usually what happens anyway. If not you can pm me if you like.

Hey thanks Harpo! I have overhauled tanks before and it is not fun. I'm going to pick a long 3 day weekend to do it. Bob
