Tankgirl,
Your tank is absolutely gorgeous! I love the macro photos you have posted as well...
Might I suggest scaffolding to help you with cleaning your tank? LOL! I feel for you. I have the opposite problem - my arms are too long. Hey, I'll trade you tanks!
I wanted to ask you about the tunze streams. Which models do you have and where are they positioned in your tank? I'm considering purchasing one because I don't want to have maxi-jets all over the place. I have a 90 gal that is my first reef tank and it has been set up for three weeks. I bought it used so all plumbing was installed. The previous owner used three maxi-jet 1200s. I put four in to use while cycling the rock, but they are not doing a great job of keeping the detritus off the bottom really. Also, there is some cyano growth which I'd like to put a damper on in a big way. I'm looking at my options for flow right now.
If you have a photo or two of the placement of yours I'd love to see it. I will only need one of the streams if I get one, but would be interested in seeing yours.
Thanks, TG!
Melissa

Hah, Thanks PJ!! It's a great feeling to be among my own kind!!
Hi Melissa, Wow, Congratulations on your new tank!! I think the cyano is a normal stage in cycling a new tank. Should go away in awhile.
I've got 3 of the Streams (6000, 6080, 6100), but only 2 are in the tank. The first one I got had a controller, but since I only wanted them to keep detritus in the water column, I realized I didn't need the controller, so the other one in the tank doesn't have any controller. The holders didn't work at all on my tank, so I messed around for awhile trying to figure out how I could make my own (and trying to get acrylic rods that fit the hole in the Streams), then finally realized even that was superfluous. They just sit on the bottom of the tank (wouldn't work with a sandbed).
You can see the one at the front pretty well - I put the bar assembly on it, then used a plastic tie strap to anchor it to a rock (thru a hole in the rock). That one points up at about a 45 deg angle because there was a current shadow at that end. The other one (near the overflows) blows straight down the side of the tank and around the bend. But, the placement in my tank is because of it's peculiarities.
Yeah, I love the streams!!! The fish love them even more and consider them fish toys. They do a good job, although I still have to blow off the rocks.
It would be less expensive to put a spray bar on your tank. I didn't want to try to tear out all that rock to install one, so the streams were my best option. In truth, even if I had a spraybar in the tank, I'd still keep the streams around just for 'fish joy'.
