Congratulations! That is an awesome tank! I've always thought...how cool it would be to have a tank you can actually walk around...

Thanks, Shirley!
Your tanks are superb! I can't wait to see the 125 when you get it finished!

Yeah, aesthetically, the walk-arounds are pretty nice. Especially with a bb, because Spanky's 'invisible water' effect is so satisfying to our eyes. It's kind of like having two tanks (and twice the work).

Oh, thank you! Our 125 has been finished for a few years now...I just really need to update all the pics on both!

So...does the bare-bottom require more maintenance time? Such as vacuuming the bottom? I like the look of sand, but I hate the muck that accumulates in it...which is really a mess if a handful is ever inspected...so I know it must have a lot of "dirt" in it that probably isn't doing the tank any good...

TG, I'm a DSB fan but your tank is one of the few bare-bottom tanks that really looks good. Did I say good, I mean Incredible!!!!!!! One world class reef tank.

It shows your dedication.

Hi Shirley! Dang, I wanna see the pics of your 125, please?
I can't really say it takes more maint. time - it's just maintainance that sometimes gets 'deferred' (ha, ha) when you've got a sb. Most people with sb's say they baste off the rocks and siphon crud off the sand, also. That's actually somewhat easier to do that with a bb, easier to see it and get it out.

Hi Juan! Thanks!!! Hah! You've got the most awesome reef of all, right out your door! PR has astoundingly beautiful reefs. I'd trade ya, in a second!!

Shirley, here's a nice, graphic pic of 3 days worth of detritus (the stuff that is fine enough to move around in the water column).

And, a pic of what I siphon out (that's too heavy to stay in the water column)! Yow! at least I can get it outta the tank!

I had no idea a bare-bottom tank could get so dirty,
What skimmer are you using and do you think its big enough for your tank, with all the flow in your tank I would only guess the skimmer would take care of most of the dirty work and is all that detritus the acumulation from every 7 to 10 days after a water change?

sorry for all the questions rolled up into one.

p.s.

If you ever visit Puerto Rico I would be more than happy you give you a Tour
