#1 yes you need the refractometer

#2 Maxi-Jet I would go with the 1200 More flow plus you can get the MJmod for the 1200 if more flow is needed

#3 Berlin skimmer....well I would spend the money and get a higher quality skimmer if you can, you may find out later you will need to upgrade (JMO)

#4 Seachem kits are good but Salifert kits are the best (JMO)

#5 Is up to you (I dont want to start the salt debate) Talk to you LFS and remember what you put in is what you get out.

#6 Yes

#7 Its up to you. I dont use it if you acclimate slow it also reduses the stress and it also makes your skimmer go nuts.

#8 You live in Florida and there is a good chance you wont need it until next winter so I would hold off.

I hope that helps

Lighting is a hard question....First how big and deep is your tank and what do you plan on keeping in the tank SPS, LPS or softies. Do you have a canopy or open top? Also depends on how much you want to spend.

Sand....For me I used the Live Sand from Caribsea I figured it would give me a jump on the cycling process. It did cost more, you could also buy the dry sand and then add a bag or two of the live sand to jump start the other sand.

Oh when you use your Maxi-Jet pump dont use the sponge that will only cause problems in the long run.
