The new guy is confused

I recently purchased a 55 gallon tank, it was from a very good source, torn down out of a 150 tank, and set up with in two hours from previous owners house to mine. Once they got all of it into the 55 gal. tank, it was short 5 gallons of water. They said that it might be bigger then a 55, or is that normal? They said they had 55 gallons of water and they set them up all the time?

Also, I am going to be setting up a refuegeum, (ok its spelled wrong), in the next week or two, and I am wondering if anyone has tips or secrets for the best way to set it up. It is a a three compartment, it is big enough for 150 gallons. I heard the Rubble in the first compartment, the green see weed stuff in the second, with sponges in between the compartments? soo............

I am not sure I follow You , The 250 is messing me up , But if You take down a 55 and move it and then set it up and are short 5 gallons of water from the original tank. I say that is normal. I am confused too.

Yea also confused.

What do you mean "torn down out of a 150 gallon tank"?

And "Once they got all of it into the 55 gal. tank, it was short 5 gallons of water. ", what does that mean? Did they transfer the tank, water and all? Is there something important about it being 5 gallons short? I just dont understand what you are saying is all.

As far as the refuge. What do you mean by "Rubble"? The sump/refugium should have a compartment for equipment; skimmer, heater, filtration media, pumps and returns, and a compartment for macroalgae. In the second compartment you could put in sand and LR. When you said sponge, did you mean a filter sponge?
