The Dam Broke!!!
Woke up yesterday hearing a funny noise. While approaching the living room my heart sunk amid wet feet as I saw my 50 G tank with about 3 inches of water in it!! The caniaster filter under the cabinet popped a line. Although the manufacturer says no clamps are required I now now better.
Thought I lost everything, fish seemed stressed corals all limp and slimmy looking.Well put hose back on(with clamps) and added ro/di water throughout the day and suprisingly ALL has come back to life. Now the hardwood floor wasn't as lucky. Time to call the insurance adjustor.

For a minute there I thought he was in Hawaii too. Sorry about the floor, I feel for you. The good thing is that the inhabitants are doing ok BTW, I didn't think that home owner insurance covered these type accidents. Don't know where I heard this.

Sorry to hear, Insurance usually covers your tank's equiptment, home ect, but will not cover anything living within your tank. I think you shouldn't have a problem getting your floor repaired.
Keep us up to date,

Actually what you probably heard is that renter's insurance does not cover water damage which is true(this sucks for me, but hey, I have a solid cement floor which is great for me), homeowner's however does cover such damage as long as you have good insurance.

Definitely Covered
FYI - I am an Independant Insurance Adjuster and have been for six years now. I have delt with more than one of these unfortunate losses. The answer to the coverage question, is yes, the damages will be covered. As mentioned above, the inhabitants of the tank would not be afforded coverage. However, any damages sustained to your home should be covered w/o question. This is assuming that you own the home and have at least a standard Dwelling Policy or Homeowners Policy.
Hope all work out for you. Feel free to drop any Insurance related Q's, as I am new to reefing and have obtained more than my fair share of valuable info from the members of this forum.
