The Best Coral Food ????????

Hello everyone, I posted this reply to a shroomer who wanted info on cutting shrooms a few days ago. I thought I'd share it with each of you who might have missed it.

I have personally tried most all of the coral foods that I have come across, MOST, not all. I won't mention their names for obvious reasons. What I will tell you, and all of the people I have ask to try it will say the same, is that ESV's Spray Dried Plankton has resulted in major coral growth, splitting/dividing, new baby shrooms and daily expansion of shrooms, palythoas and zoanthides in my tank. My ricordea's, which are typically slow growers, have accelerated growth like never before. This started just weeks after I started using the SDP. When I discontinue usage of it, there is a noticeable differences in a matter of days. The bottle suggest usage once a day, I only use it every third or fourth day as a supplement to the micro orgs in the tank. I can not speak for LPS's since all I have are shrooms, zo's and palythoas, but I can tell you that I have to thin out my reef and sell the excess 2 or 3 times a year. The SDP is fairly inexpensive too. I purchased a 2 oz bottle for $ 13.60 16 months ago and I still have a lot left. If anyone decides to try it, please let us know your results.

If anyone else has had great results with another food, I'd love to hear about it.

Ahhh Johnny u blew my whole responce. lol From what I have learned and heard corals dont eat phytoplankton. The dont like thier veggies and are meat eaters, so zooplankton would be what you would want to feed your corals. Now if you hapened to find a bottle of phytoplankton that wasnt stale and really had to life in it, it wouldnt be a waste the corals may not eat it but the Zooplankton sure do love it. SO IMHO you are just feeding a little farther down the food chain.

OK boys have at me.

I have been feeding my homebrewed blender mush for some time (Bornemans recipe) with good success. I just tried IPSF's "coral heaven". I have NEVER seen such an agressive feeding response from my corals. This stuff pushed all the right buttons. Though I do not have a long term history with this product yet, it has my full support so far.

Hey Doug,

Next time you make "blender mush" try adding more bi-valves (oyster, clam, etc), see if you don't get the same response?

I've used Jerel's blender mush to feed my fish. The corals get what the fish miss (not much). Otherwise I don't feed them anything and the corals are doing very well.

Hey Spanky, I tried uping the oyster content but the tabasco upsets the aptasia and the lemon juice wreaks havoc with the pH. Now what?

Jerel:

Thanks for the advice. I'll give that a try. My last batch was a little heavy on the Dolce and Nori seaweeds (my Sailfin doesn't mind the extra though).

The winds ever going to slack off down there? What has Hawk Channel been running, 4-6ft? Arrrgh. Find any good diving on the back side?
