The Annual Flood.
Well its that rainy time of the year here on the west coast so in keeping with tradition, I have had my annual flood on the fish tank. I guess sometime last night the endcap on my RO portion of the ro/di unit popped off (actually spit and poped off) and the unit was just like an open tap into the pump room, water spraying all over the MH ballasts electrical plugs and real close to the electrical panel of the house.
Got lucky this time though, the ballasts are fine and the plugs are exterior insulated and water didnt get intothem. The carpit however is not as lucky. we got the carpit cleaner extracting the water right now. So it wont be an expensive one, with the exception of the blood money I will have to give the wife for the mess .

 YIpes, Mike! That's awful!
Looks like we were lucky that nothing happened during the August Picnic. Or if it did, you were a slight-of-hand artist and we were completely unawares.

Sigh.
(Alice shaking her head) Mike, what are we going to do with you?
Doug gets to sleep on the floor by the tank.

Well Mike, sorry to hear of your situation, glad you got it out of the way b4 the end of the year LOL. (seems to be a annual thing ,mebbe it's just me
my 180 FO and 75 reef are in my living room as of now , soon(not soon enuf)the 180 and the 75 (contents of 75 will go into a 200) when the 200 goes up and 75 will be turned into a prop tank(unless i go FW,and find some blue gravel,LOL((Doug)),,,in the basement, the 1/2 of the basement the tanks will be in will be somewhat "water-safe" (painted cement floor, area rug in da middle) with the "spills" i've had over the years, luckily i'm still married water changes on the same level, what a concept, no more 10 gal. stair climbing
anyone who has not had a H2o "out of tank" experience is lying,or just darn lucky

I'm glad you didn't have any electrical problems. I left my RO unit running all night last night. Thankfully it is in the garage with a floor drain. Otherwise I would have had 60 gallons of water to mop up this morning.

Well its all cleaned up. The wife didnt get the "thier now u got your carpits cleanerd joke" so she is off to the casino .. I guess I should put out a warning.
The unit is a Aquactic reef system 4 stage ro/di. The problem is with the clear see through ro casing. I talked with the boys at Aquatics (and they were very good to deal with) and they say it turns out that the clear units will fracture anytime after 8000 cycles, then the caps explode. They say after what happened to mine they are going to recall them and give new units to all that have these types.
so check your units, if you have the clear ro unit give them a call or buy a good shop vac.

Mike...
Now you see, this is what trying to do full automation brings... will you continue to ignore the signs and press on?

Hey Mike! DITTO!
I got quite a few frags from Frank this afternoon. Been gone since esterday and got home, put the bags in to float. Went down stairs and heard everyone yelling upstairs.
One of the bags floated over the open 2'' intake and plugged it. The 3000 gph overflowed all over the hardwood floors, and had a rainforest effect in the basement. Soaked the boxes of stored stuff, Christmas decos and stuff
That is the third time I overflowed the 240g and now I get to refinish the floors NOT!!!!!!! Oh well, ''no expense'' as Frank says, or great blunder shall keep me from reefing!
Hang in there!

Heh! Wait till you've been doing it for 20 years. I can think of at least 20 ways to spill water from your tank, not including letting the RO/DI run too long into the reservoir...
...in more than one house...
...and the LFS you "help" out sometimes...
...and at your reefing buddies's houses...
...more than once in a single day...
I never have to worry about cleaning the kitchen floor, as it gets mopped once a week at least with RO/DI (can't figure out WHY i can't just stop that thing.) Wet/Dry vacs should be required as one of the first things you buy after you get the tank...
