test kits......

OKay I did a few searches and came up with salifert and seachem of being good

Well I want to get some good kits namely for
iodine
calcium
alk
phosphates
trates,trites and ammonia
and also a good PH meter

Any recomendations for each such as a particular brand for a particular test?
anything else I should test for?

thank ya

Salfert is my favorite .

I wouldn't waste money on the Phosphate kit . By the time it'e readable you will have algae to let you know .

With the NO2 and ammonia by what ever you see local , after you go threw your cylce you won't have to use them again .

Seachem's Ca is just as good (IMHO) and is more economical to use over time.

I disagree on the phosphate test kit. I don't have algae problems but have measurable phosphates. Not to be a Seachem bigot, but their phosphate test kit is the easiest to read with it's color changer dye (not a density changer).

Been happy with Seachem's Reef Special with has iodine/iodide, phosphate, silicate tests for a discount.

I prefer Salifert's alk test unless I want to break out the magnesium and borate with seachem's alk reef status kit.

For the money, it's really hard to beat Aquarium Pharmecuticals ammonia and nitrite test kits. They work just as well as anyone's.

I've tried many nitrate test kits. Seachem's isn't very good at higher levels, but works fine at low levels. The others are all about the same (AQ is cheaper compared to salifert, tetra, and seachem).

Tom Wyatt recommended pinpoint pH meters. I have a Milwaukee permanently in my sump. It works OK.

I just tested (yesterday) for Strontium with seachem's kit. It's the most complex I've used, but not too bad. The instructions could use some work. Hmm... None measurable. Oh, well. Time to see how important this is...
