temperature?
ive been fiddling with my heater and chiller and cant decide what temperature to use. i dont want to kill my turbos or margarita snails and i figure 76-77 ish range that way when i think theres something wrong i can raise the tempurature. but wouldnt corals grow slower and the fish eat less. i dont know right now its about 77.

I run my tank at 81 because I don't have a chiller and my fans/temp controler can maintain it here easy, if I did have a chiller I would probably run it between 78 and 79.

Rght now my tank runs about 80-82 with no heater and the house stays at 77 and have not had any problems. But I just invested in chiller and a nice pump which I will keep at 79 should be here tomorrow can't wait.

I keep my heater at 79 and my tank stays at about 80 to 80.5 with the lights...remains to be seen what happens when the heat goes on in the winter. The house will definately be a little cooler than it has been.

a little reading about Margarites pupillus.
an article about snails. no real info in it though about temps.
in general as the temp increases so does the metabolism of the critter.

go down to comments.
ok seeing as the tempurature on most reefs is around 85 i would keep it there but delbeek and sprung say that would cause over reproduction of the little critters in the rock and lower oxygen too much im gonna keep it at 77 and that would give me the ease of raising the temp when i have to.
i think its crappy that they sell turbos and margaritas for reef tanks but if they started collecting only reef snails then that would be unnesesary pressure on the woulrlds reefs. does anyone know if they captive breed any reef snails?
im going to set up a coldwater reef tank using frags from a nearby aquarium focusing on native species(so*cal)and lr collected from a site nearby where its legal to collect things in spring. after diving channel islands and catalina so much i gotta do it and i think it would make a great home for my turbos! gonna start a thread once i get the tank and stand for the coldwater!!
