Although I agree that your significant other is wanting you to spend a little cash on the hobby is one of those "better strike while the iron is hot" issues, unless your system is overheating, then don't sweat it. If you decide to use a chiller, make sure to get a controller for both heat and cooling elements, and locate the condensing unit either in the basement or outside (they make units that have remote evaporators and condensers connected by flexible freon lines) to avoid the noise issue. Keep in mind that there are many alternatives to using a freon-based unit for cooling, many of which are nearly silent.
