Temp Variations

Ok,

I have a 55G that has been running since the end of August...

I just added power quad PC's (96W) and already had 2x55's, a 55 on the upper fuge, and a set of 50/50 T-5's sitting no the fuge...

I have noticed a LOT of temperature swings on the tank...from 78 to 83.3.

The lights are on a time...I have a heater...its unplugged now...

Thoughts?

What is worse..too hot, or too cold?

The range you have there is not bad. As long as the temperature swings aren't too sudden then you should be ok. You can use the heater to keep the night time temperature closer to the day time temperature but I wouldn't worry about a swing of a few degrees.

Maybe have a fan(s) come on with the last set of lights and turn off the same time. Try to keep the swing from 78 to 80. I try to keep mine at 79-80 and no more.

man....... mne swings more than that, 77-86 and that is with lights for fuge on reverse schedule.
now that it is gettin cooler hopefully thangs will change soon..
