Question

Temp Controller

Hi, I have been learning from this site for the last 6 months and want to say thank you. I just ordered a Ranco temp controller for my 90gal Reef Tank. I want to use to turn my fans on and off. My tank has been around a average of 78. Now with cooler nites it dropes to 76 and goes up to 80 durning the days. My question is what temp of the water should I have the fans turn on and what should I put the heater on. My tank is built into the wall and had a small problem with Ick last month which a UV light and cleaner shrimp has solved. Thanks Rick

I have the same temp controler for the same purpose.

My tank runs hot though, I have my fans kick on at 81 and shut off at 80. They don't shut off much though with all the pumps and lighting over this tank.

In your case I would say set the fans to kick on at 78, and off at 77, that way it will maintain that temprature very closely since the lowest you ever see is 76.

This thread will get much more exposure in the General reef descussion fourm though, this fourm is for sight feedback.

HTH,
Whiskey

It works kinda like a digital thermomiter but with a catch. It monitors the temprature of your tank, then when it hits a setpoint it flips a relay. This relay would be connected to a fan or chiller or heater. Then the fans do their job cooling down the tank and when it hits a second set point it shuts the fans off.

For a mere $1000 you can do the same thing with an AC III
