Ok, I'll bite. My name is Mike, I'm 13 from CA, and I have 6+ tanks. I have a 40g fresh with a "breeding" pair of angels that havent bred yet, a 29 w/ FW cichlids, a 30g with the same type of cichlids except its a diff subspecies. I have a 15g Goldfish "pond", a 10g with over 50 Betta babies, and another 10g with bettas that will breed soon. All these have babies or breeding pairs in them, except the 15g. Now the SW.... I have a 10g nano, the 40g will be a reef soon, as soon as I get a 29 for the angels. The 10g has about 15 pounds of live rock, and live sand too. I have some star poylps, 2 leather corals, and 3 mushroom rocks. Also I have a coral from Hawaii and a coral that came on the rock. A button polyp too. I have a true perc clown for fish. A peppermint shrimp too. I just started adding corals about 2 months ago, and from all the new tanks (the 10s) I am like broke til these bettas grow up. Anyone want 1???

Oh ya, I'm in 8th grade.

Ok, lets see how far I can get here. My name is Steven and I am 28 years old, I am a Senior Network Engineer at Sierra Computers in Reno NV. I have been reefing for about a year and a half so I have a long way to go. I have a 46 Gal bow tank with about 110 lbs of Live rock and 100 lbs of live sand, it has been setup for that year and a half (I had a tank previously but it didnt fair well) I took this site over so that it could keep going with the nature that it had started with, mainly a friendly place that everyone can go to and ask the beginner questions that we all know you have (and me too)

Hello. My name is Bob and I'm a reefaholic. I'm 35 carpenter and have been keeping fish for 9 years and reefs for 8. I started with a 44 gal then went to a 90 and then a 125. My next tank is a 300 and will be set up this weekend . I also have a 10 gal prop tank for my xenia and a few other frags. Although I don't post much I do check the board a few times a day and answer when I feel I can add something. Nice Board. No flames. Bob

Hi- my name is Marie. I am a 29+(I'm not telling how old) dentist. I have had a reef tank for 3 yrs now, started with a 40 gal and now have 11 tanks- a 150,180,75,55,a 40-fresh guppy tank (food for the marine betta) and 6-20 gal tanks. My husband now says no more tanks unless we get more electricity to the house! I am trying to breed clowns(-maroon, percula, occellaris, cinnamon, black percula), blue damsels and Bangaii cardinals. The breeding pairs are in the 20 gal tanks. I had one pair breeding but the female died, now I am waiting on the others which I understand may take up to 3 yr before the maroons in particular start breeding. In the meantime I am busy propagating soft corals to populate the 4 reef tanks. My newest tank has 2 beautiful redfaced batfish which are doing great and being piggies, wanting to eat all of the time. I am debating about adding seahorses to this peaceful tank after I get a better established sand bed.So much to try and so little time to do this. I think maybe when I retire, I'd like to go back to school into Marine biology.

Hah, this is beginning to sound like Reefers Anonymous or a group similar to that for weaning off the reef hobby.

I'm 23 and an outside sales rep in the Bay Area. I've been reefing for a little over two years now. I have a 10-gal and a 40-gal. Please check the specs page for details.

And my hobbies? Well reef-tanks of course!! There isn't much time or money for anything else! I try to squeeze in sno-boarding, traveling and late night visits to SF.

That's my life in a nut shell!

My name is Sarah Rambo (no jokes!!) I live in Springfield, Oregon. I am 20 years old, and was homeschooled since 4th grade by my parents. I was able to get into a local college early, and just finished a 2 year General Studies degree at Lane Community College this month. I am looking for work right now, hopefully a job at Sony.

I have been in the FW aquarium hobby for practically all my life. My mom had a 12 gal hex when I was little, and I grew up helping her take care of it.

After that tank was taken down (we had to move) I had goldfish on and off for years, until getting Internet access. With the huge amounts of info on aquariums suddenly available to me, my interest in the hobby exploded. I graduated from ye olde goldfish tank to a 55 gallon planted aquarium, which was hella fun.

I jumped from freshwater to saltwater only semi recently, a few months short of a year ago. I started with a 10 mini-reef (I just jumped into a reef tank straight away, didn't keep FO) and after a few months upgraded to a 20L reef, which I have now.

It's been a real kick in the pants!

Sara

I'm JennM and I'm a reefaholic

I'm thirtysomething and I got my first 30 gallon FO tank in 1986 or so. We bought it established, from a friend, and gradually moved up to a 55 with LR added and a few inverts. Couldn't afford corals back then, and they didn't keep well (lighting was primitive) so we never attempted them. In 1992 we started our family, and eventually the tank took a basement seat (storage) in about mid-93. We recently moved to a bigger and better house in a new country (moved from Canada to the US) and we have got back into the hobby. We now have a 55 and are slowly building a REEF!

I am at 37 (eeks!) year old high risk obstetrician in NH. Work is pretty stressful, so I like to come home and watch my fish.

I have had a tank for a little over 1 year now. It is 55 gallons and has 3 clowns, a tang, a jaw fish, and an I forgot fish. I also have a variety of corals in it. I don't have great lighting - 2 96 watt PC. I hope to update to a 120 gallon tank this coming year.

The kids keep asking why we can't get the TV fixed or get cable. I keep telling them we can't afford it. With a tank where the TV should be, who could ask for anything more??

Snipa -- couldn't figure out why you needed rides everywhere. Great job keeping so many tanks going. I am very impressed!! My freshwater isn't doing so well. I have a beatiful angel.

While my nick name is bill-e, you might be suprised to know that my real name is Bill

I'm older that anyone who has posted so far.

I've been lucky enough to meet many people from #reefs at a local BBQ, and even had lunch with Michele!

I've been a victim of expensive hobbies all my life, and like most of you husbands, have to hide what I spend from my wife

I've kept fish on and off all my life, and have been reefing for a little over a year.

Hi. I'm 42. I live in Marietta, GA, a suburb of Atlanta. I started in FW in '92 and switched to SW in about '97. My family can't understand why I stare into my tank for hours at a time. And I was recently caught kneeling in front of my tank at 3 am with no lights except a flashlight. My wife thinks I should seek therapy.

Hey guys and gals! Hope this won't be too long winded for ya!

My name is Mike. I am 27 yrs. old and work at an automobile manufacturer here in the bay area.

I instruct Safety classes for Maintenance Personnel as well as design the Lock-Out placards for machinery throughout the plant.

I have been in this hobby going on a year and a half now. I have 2 skimmerless tanks, a 40gallon reef and a 90gallon reef.

Some of you may know FISH WHISPERER from other boards. I met him through Aquaria Central. Our familys have become the best of friends.

Together, he and I have done our share of research / experimentation to find out truths to some of the myths of the hobby.

My passion for this hobby drives me to help out others the best I can. I will frequent this board as often as possible and hope to get the chance to meet up with some of you sometime to put a name with a face!

I'm horge.
I am just a little older than Bob (RWD),
though I certainly look much younger
You can ask phillstone to corroborate this.

I make my living as an architect and as a businessperson. I've been a reefer and snorkel-demon since childhood and an environmental activist since the mid-70's.

I can't give my real name because my reef efforts in the Philippines are technically illegal.

When not reefing or designing or paying ridiculously high taxes on things, I like my glass of sherry (with biscuits and a disconnected home phone). That, and tinkering with my beat-up Telecaster, are second choices to just simply spending free time with my wife

Anemone fritters, sea cucumbers in sweet-and-sour sauce, and steamed tangs in coconut-milk-and-ginger sauce are some dishes I like to surprise foreigner friends with

Ok I will go for it and bore you all stiff
I am 41 years old I live in a fenland town called March in Cambridgeshire UK with my wife of 13 years Eliane who comes from Guadeloupe.
After school, which I did very badly at with no GCEs or CSEs, I started an apprenticeship as a motor mechanic.
I did not complete the training as the pay of £11.00 a week did not cover any luxuries so I started work as a landscaping gardener.
I then spent three years in the British army and then worked my way around the world after that I went back in to landscaping and then started up my own landscaping company.
In 1991 I lost my hip joint to septic arthritis of the hip a hip replacement at the end of 1995 after spending 3 years in a wheelchair and crutches several months before the hip replacement.
Started keeping FW 34 years ago (7 years old) myself and my dad kept FW before I was born, in those 34 years except the army period and travelling I learnt how to set up and keep a large selection FW plants and breed a large selection of different fish.
Adjusting water parameters setting up gravel beds and lighting for plants and breeding fish etc took awhile to get correct and I feel a good introduction to the dedication needed for keeping a reef system.
I bought many books on reef keeping and what magazines I could get hold of during the period when I was in a wheel chair.
In may 1998 I had won a negligence case against a hospital and in Sept 1998 I set up a reef in a 150g reef aquarium.
Set up with a 2" bed of sand and 75 kilos of live rock 2x150w MH lights and 5 power heads and a in weir counter current skimmer was the basics of the system.
Improvement include seven more pumps and 2" depth of more sand and 2x400w metal halides and a refugium in the room above gravity feed back down to the main tank.

In March 2000 the start of a 16 tank 1500g SPS propagation system in my garage was started.
I have started with soft corals until I feel the system is mature for SPS corals and then I will devote it to SPS corals only and Maybe some LPS corals.

Oh what a feeling, I no want no fuss nor fight, some wish me bad while others wish me good.
One last stop, we re going around around and around.
I am trying to trail unknown territory for me, I ve got more than my feet wet and I m way up over my head.
But I m digging it.
Martyn

OK I'm not the oldest member of the BB but I'm up there. My name is Doug and I also live in oregon. I have been married since71, keeping fish since 72 and got into saltwater in 75. BTW I just turned 49. I have been intop reefs for going on 4 yrs now. Stumbled and bumbled the first 2 years then found the net and was hooked. I literally spent 8-10 hrs a day surfin reef boards, and have been involved with the board this one evolved into since feb, 99. In the early days we got a lot of help from Larry M who as a lot of you know went on to start Reef Central, so its not surprising that theresa a great deal of cross info and members. 2 things Larry and I agreed on as far as a bulletin board was a friendly flame free atmosphere and striving to provide the best info we could get. RC has done an outstanding job and I'm proud to be a member and former moderator. The Reef Tank is my proudest achievement, I have loved the atmosphere and fellowship of this board since the begining. We arent the biggest around but =we try to make everyone welcome
When I'm not reefin I work for a company that supplies medical equipment for in home patients ranging from newborns on apnea monitors all the way to working closely with Hospice organizations to provide the hardware needed to ease the transition of the terminally ill. Every now and again I get away and go camping, preferably down a river with my raft, or 4WD touring into remote areas of the awesome state I live in

Tell everyone about yourself!!

Hello everyone,
I have been somewhat absent from the board as of late (summer school and now fall semester has been getting in the way) and I think a lot of other people have been busy as well, so I thought I would try starting a post we could all respond to, to get things going again.

I am familiar with a lot of your names but I don't know any of you on a more personal level like some of you people from Oregon do We should all introduce ourselves, age, jobs, interests or whatever. Tell us about yourself and maybe a little about your reef(s) as well. I think it would be cool if we could get this to be a looong post.

This may seem a little cheesy but I have seen it work on other boards and I love reading a little about other people. It would be cool for some of the newbies to get a feel for who posts here as well.

Having said that I guess I will start the post:
My real name is Ryan, I am a 19 year-old college student. I am studying a variety of subjects in science and math and plan on majoring in biology or marine biology and minoring in chemistry. I hope to at least complete a graduate degree in the future. I want to teach or enter a research career someday.

I love anything to do with the ocean and spend a lot of time laying on So Cal beaches and swimming in the ocean I also have a part time job at a coffee house.

As far as the hobby goes I have been keeping freshwater fish since I was very young. I kept a goldfish tank for a while but that evolved into a tropical freshwater aquarium. A few years ago my love for the ocean led to me trying my hand at a fish-only saltwater tank. And as I gained more knowledge I converted it to a reef. I have a 29-gallon soft and LPS coral tank with a few fish. It is all I can afford in time and money right now, but it is fun and gives me a good diversion from studying and work.

OK, so now everyone else's turn!!
