Tech vs Reef Ready

What's up,

Has anyone ever heard of an Oceanic "Tech" tank? What is the difference between the tech tank and a reef ready tank? Actually, what makes a tank made by Perfecto, Oceanic or All Glass better than the other? I saw the matching stand price for a tank I was checking out, now I now why so many people build their own stands.

I *think* the tech series are reef ready, but they use low iron glass on at least the front pane (starfire or low-iron glass is much clearer than regular glass).

Thanks. I found some more information. Both are basically RR. I think Oceanic is trying design the "Tech" series as more of sleek or modern design. I thought the tech part meant it had more mechanical stuff in to benefit the aquarium or cool places for skimmer and other gadgets.

it has a center overflow, optically clear front glass (starfire), 4 holes in the overflow, euro bracing (no center brace), the trim is drilled for bulkheads if you would like to add an over the top closed loop, and i believe oceanics run a little thicker glass in all of their lines (i know they are heavier). Also look into all the warranty's I know in my experience oceanic has a good warranty/customer service dept. even if it is not their fault they try and help you out.

They are pretty sleek, particularly the stands that are available with them, but the low-iron glass is the most desireable aspect for me. I kind of wish I'd had that myself.

I saw one of the Oceanic Tech tanks at my lfs (a 110) and the return went all the way across the back but only stuck out about 2", vs the AGA comes out about 4". Because it goes all the way across you really don't even notice it, it was pretty cool. It cost a bit more, but I would have paid it if I saw it when I bought my tank.

I don't know of any cons on it. I know I am at least a year away from upgrading to the tank and lights that I truly want. My lfs had on one of those Oceanic Tech series, I believe it was 156 gallon tank. The rear glass was already black so you wouldn't have to paint it or cover it.

Ooops, 156 gallon tank that the lfs might actually have been some kind of Oceanic "Ultimate" tank. I don't know know if the "tech" series go any higher than 120 gallons. Now, I have to find out what's up with the "Ultimate". Oceanic really knows how to market their tanks

The tech tanks also don't have any center bracing... so no shadows under your lights.
