Tear down and rebuild?
Looking at new cured LR from reefermadness. Would 45lbs of Fiji be enough spread on a 58G? More?
Also I am thinking of this plan -
- Take water and some of the rock from the 58G tank and fill the 15G tank/
- Remove all the corals and fish and place in the 15G with a heater and a small power head. I don't have a good light . Maybe a 55W PC.
- Empty the rest of the 58G and clean the tank with clean water and chuck in the garbage all the remaining rock.
- Place new LR overnighted from supplier in to the 58G tank and stack
- Fill tank with new SW.
- 3 days later move all corals and fish to tank.
Will this work? I am afraid the scops tang will not like it in the 15G.
Any ideas?

It's going to take a little longer than 3 days to cure the new rock.

Finding that out now. Was hoping using cured LR would be fine. After shipping it doesn't look like its going to matter.
I dont have a palce to cure LR so it looks like I may just tear it down all together.

I live in a condo. I can not have the smell in my house. I also have a 2 year old running around that is very nosey. The skimmer is running on the main tank now so there is no other skimmer to cure the rock in a tub either.

I don't use a skimmer to cure my rock...just a tub, heater and powerhead.

Still have no where to cure it. I live in a condo (apartment style with no basement, no garage).

In a closet? Tanks are tough to do any maintenance on in an apartment I agree. It's hard enough in my garage.

Rob, just a thought...do you know any other reefers in your area that might be willing to cure the rock for you at their house? I know if you lived closer to me I'd cook them for you. I've got the equipment, and I could clear a 5' square to set it up.

Is there a LFS near you that you could buy cured live rock from? If you have one that you trust, maybe they could order you some rock and hold it for you in the back till its cured. Just a thought.

That is true,... I have an LFS near me that cures rock, and sells it. It's more expensive but it's fully cured when you get it.

I don't trust the LFS. Their curing tanks are nasty looking. And after this last batch I got rom them I am skeptical.
Staring at the tank for a while tonight has gotten me really upset. I really thought I had it all working. Just dont get how its not.

I never ordered or had rock shipped. I alsways got it locally and we know the story of that.
I got bigger problems right now. The heat in my living room just went. I doubt the tank heater is going to heat up. This will solve the "What to do with the coral/fish" problem.
