tank updates (lots o pics)

ok, i'm gonna jump on the update bandwagon, and show some pics of the current state of the tank. plus, paul asked for some anyway

now, this is no calvin tank, but it's coming along nicely for a converted freshwater 55

here is an overall shot of the tank. you'll notice that my "filter" covers on the powerheads are shorter. it was driving me nuts seeing how big those things were, so i cut them up, and removed a significant amount of length from each, over 5 inches, and then wire tied them back together. i also removed the suction cup holders on the powerheads, and have them mounted with the hang on holders.

my three green chromis. these things amaze me. sometimes they are blue, sometimes they are green, sometimes they are purple, and sometimes almsot white. depends on how the light hits them. very fun watching them school together too.

this peice of rock among others, was one of my base rock pieces, jsut plain brown. but now it has this red on it. some of the others have the red or the green, and some have both.

i'm hoping this is my corraline spreading, and NOT cyano ?!?!

these "indentations" were on this piece of rock when i got it. i thought it was just an indentation from a coral of some sort. like a fossilized marking etc..

but since adding the lights and calcium i'm noticing that these are spreading and growing much more defined!!

is this some sort of coral?

thanks geoff! i still have the spray bar back there, but i wanted the ph's moved to the sides of the tank. i was then going to use my return pump as the power for the spray bar, but it was too mcu hhead to go all the way up and then down again, slowed down too much. i'm still going to utilize it, but my just pick up a powerhead and mount it all the way at the bottom in the pvc and behind rock instead of at the top of the tank. i just temporarliy removed the verticle tube until i figure out exactly how i want to put in the pump or powerhead for it.

First of all , tank looks good, congrats!

The green, and the red are both algaes - the red you should be able to blow off the rock with a turkey baster or something. The green you'll have to leave for your snails, scraping required.

The pic with the coral skeleton - I don't know what type of skeleton it is, but it would need flesh on it before it did any growing! Perhaps something else is moving and tricking your eye, keep this photograph and compare to some down the road.

Why are you adding Calcium to the tank? What is your Calcium level now? If you just want to increase your corraline, upgrade your water flow a few notches, add a bulb or two, and your in business. Save a few bucks on that additive stuff - you have no Ca consumers in your tank now, so you won't have low Ca! I love math...

Cheers, looks fun!
