Tank Temps Vs. Ambient
So I have been crawling the threads alot about temperature control, and although I see a lot of folks mention where they keep their tank temps (78-82), I rarely see what ambient air temperature is.
This morning, the house is at 73 degrees, my tank, with only the skimmer and return running is at 78. This was with an 80mm PC fan pointed at a 45 degree angle to the water.
I'm looking for some feedback similar to how I posted above.
Tank Temperature Range and ambient temp of the house. Also, mention the use of fans for evap cooling, fan cycle, etc.
Thanks!

My house temp would range from 74-78 throughout the day, and the tank would be from 77-79 with a pair of clip on fans running only when the tank lights were on. I never had an issue with temp on that setup.

You might want to look at an external pump, because thats a big difference between ambient room temp and water temp. what does it get to when the lights have been on all day?

I keep my house between 73 and 74 and the tank stays between 80 and 83. I use 2 120mm PC fans aimed 45* to the surface of the water.

Our house is 67 in summer and winter, but this topect also goes well with chillers in the summer. It depends on room temp, how much it will lower the temp in the summer.

about the same here. My hoods are completely enclosed for the display, but open for the prop system and holding system. both open systems stay around 78 oF, the display stays around 81 oF-82 oF by the end of the photoperiod, even with fans in the hood and in the sump.

Speaking of fans... Tom, I still have those monsters here at the house if you are still interested. They move some serious air, but on a tradeoff they do put out a little bit of noise as well.

Yea, I need to do somethng different. MY skimmer is powered by a ViaAqua 2600 (740gph @ 46W) and my return is a ViaAqua 3600(1057 gph @ 80W). I think i will replace skimmer pump with a Rio 2100 (692 @ 37W) and this is the pump the skimmer manufacture recommends.
I want to replace my return pump as well. It needs to be in sump and not going to break me (the reason for the ViaAqua $$). I also do not need to do 1057 gph, I have 2 K2 powerheads in the display on a 46 bf, so I have enough flow from that.
In any regards, These need to be super quiet! I can barely hear the ViaAqua when they are running.
Any sugguestions? Quiet one? Eheim? (I know someone will say this one)

Well, I took the speed dampening reisistors off of 3 of my fans, it seems to have helped alot.
The house is 76 right now and the tank is 78...I think that is from the heater/pump. I am also not running my skimmer right now, so I am sure that helps. I have plans to replace both my AquaVia pumps.....classifieds will be watched
I want to run my full photocycle today to see what temps we get up to...if it gets to 85, I will shut down the halides.
Questions: Are snails and crabs sensitive to light? I also have 1 pepperment shrimp, be he just hides all the time so I dont think the light matters to it.
Ill post back here later tonight with my heat results.
thanks everyone!
