Tank Raised Percula Clowns

I had someone tell me the other day that tank raised clowns will not host with an anemone or anything else. First time I had heard of this. Any other opinions?

Malarky!

I only buy tank-raised clowns from ORA for my shop. I currently have 4 skunk clowns, hosting in LT anemone, fox corals, pearl bubble corals, I've got 4 cinnamon clowns that were in a BTA until the BTA and one clown were sold, and I've got 2 maroon clowns in a BTA (there were 4 in 2 BTAs but one "set" were sold).

The false percs go in a variety of "hosts" but haven't really picked one to call home yet, but I did have a pair previously that chose a nice Galaxea to live in.

Jenn I was writing as you were posting s o I hadnt seen your answer when I hit reply
Thats a simplification, and not entirely true. Tank raised clowns miss out on the interaction of being raised around a host anemome, and so may not respond so strongly to chemical cues or whatever drives them in the wild, but some will host given the chance, no guarentees.
Also keep in mind that in the wilds certain clowns have preferences for specific anemone species.
Another factor maybe that ones destined to become female feel a stronger nesting instinct and may be more apt to host with a suitable coral if a host anemone is not available.
Its all pretty much by chance, wild caught
fish won't always host in an aquarium, even with the prfered anemone

Hi JohnH2,
My pair of True Percs were tank-raised, and they live in our yellow polyps all the time. That's where they laid their eggs, as well.
I have pics posted under my "clown fish laid eggs" topic...
