Tank parameters TOO good?

Hello all,

My 135gal is about 5 months old. I’ve had hair algae, cyano, and everything else that most tanks go through but now I’m complaining about nothing (literally).

My nitrates, phosphates et al are undetectable. Over the past few weeks, all of my hair algae has died away, the cyano is gone from the system and my grape caulerpa down in the fuge is slowly going away (certainly not growing). My SPS are thriving & coloring up and my Torch coral died (sign of nitrates being too low for their needs?). I have always intended on having a variety tank with SPS/LPS/Softies but for whatever reason it seems to have turned into an SPS friendly tank all of the sudden.

I do 10gal water changes once a week, skim hard and use carbon of course… Lights are 2 x 400W HQI and 4 x 32W Actinics.

Not sure that there’s a question in this post but I’m just surprised by the changes that have occurred over the past month.

Rest of parameters:
Calc: 380
pH: 8.2 to 8.5 (trying to stabilize this swing)

SG: 1.025
dKH: 10

Mark

I don't think the torch died because the perams are too good, remember LPS and SPS are both classified as "stonies" to the scientific community. I would look to too much light, or too much flow as the cause of the torch's demise, some say they need to be fed, I do feed mine, but I am not sure if they require it. There are also some fish that will pester LPS to death.

HTH,
Whiskey
