tank move / overflow question

I am moving my 120G tank to the basement, as I am breaking it down I notice that there is a lot of green algae in the overflows- should I clean this all out or is it serving a purpose.

Also I am replacing the sand bed with 20lbs of live sand and 80 lbs or dry sand- should I and if so how much of my old sand bed should I keep to help seed the tank.

I also notice that I had quite a healthy amount of pods in the tank although I quess most will be lost in the move will the restock themselves ?

The pods will restock themselfs I would clean out the overflows as best as possible while you have the tank torn down,.. the algae in there isn't serving any real purpose. If it were me I would probably save a cup or two of surface sand for the new sandbed,.. but not much.

Whiskey said it all. Use new sand (it doesn't have to be live) except for a little bit for seeding the new sand.
