Tank in good shape after 5 months neglect
I've been out of town for the past five months and turned my tank over to my tenant. He was pretty much clueless, so I gave him some pointers and turned it over to him. All the fish are still there and the softies seem to be doing fine. Salinity was a bit low, but I'm working on that. Aptasia has spread so I'm going to go look for a peppermint shrimp here soon. I hope my coral banded doesn't kill him. I've also noticed that there are plenty of those tiny starfish that eat zoas. Any way to get rid of those without reaching in and picking them out one by one?

Harlaquein shrimp eat them but you are the best to hand pick them out.

I bought a peppermint shrimp. I suppose it will be a few days/weeks before I see any results. The coral banded didn't seem to hate him too much. I guess I'll try picking out the pest starfish by hand. Uphill battle there....Thanks guys.

some of them might not be coral eaters, I think the rule of thumb is that if you see them on the glass they are not coral eaters.

They are very small and I've been told that they eat zoas. When mature they are the traditional starfish shape, but the smaller ones generally have a few short legs and one or two long ones. Some are on the glass, but they are all over the live rock as well.

They are called asterinas. You can google them for more info. The bad ones typically eat sps, not zoas and if they are on the rocks and glass and not your corals, chances are they are fine and just an addition to your clean up crew.
