Tank Height

I am about to fax through the order for my tank and have decided to definately go higher than 24"

The tank will be 6' long and 2' wide and will be lit with 3 x 250 watt MH and 4 x 4' VHO's

Its exactly the same cost if the tank is 28" high or 30" high, so of course I'm leaning towards the higher measurement.

I'm thinking, that you lose nearly an inch at the bottom with the stand moulding coming up an inch higher than the bottom, 4" DSB and then another inch or more at the top of the tank with the hood coming below the top.

So that adds up to 6" and gives 24" of viewing.

I can foresee a bit of a hassle with the depth, I'm 6' tall and will still more than likely have to use one step to do maintence.

To those that own 30" or 28" tanks is the bigger viewing area a worthwhile trade off for the hassle factor?

Should I go 28" of 30" ???

Any suggestions?

Speaking as one who cleans tanks for a living... more than 24" is a pain unless you have very long arms. I am 5'7".

Are you *sure* you want a DSB?? (Oh Jerel??? Where for art thou?)

My head is shaking, but mmmmkay

My arms would say 24"....

I maintain 20 tanks, and about half a dozen are more than 24" deep and I hate 'em all.

Of course we have a 35" deep one... but I don't clean that one, Scott does.

i would measure your reach and decide how often you will need to reach the back corner of the tank.

you will get more water volume with the added height. you will also need to keep good surface agitation to keep the oxygen levels up.

Tank turnover will be 45x an hour, so hopefully oxygen levels should not be a problem.

I say the 30" the added viewing is worth it. My tank is 32" and a tall plastic spoon comes in handy at times. Besides with all the LR in our tanks there are many places I can not reach.
