Tangs Breeding?

My purple and yellow tang I think are having an affair. This evening at sunset, they were in supper color and all puffed up sails raised high. The yellow is the female I believe and the purple the male. She is guarding the biggest cave and running everyone else away from there. The two will get tail to tail and touch and fan each other. Remember I told you my yellow got a blue trim around her top sail and around her tail, I think this might have something to do do with this. I have had to remove the atlantic from the tank they were killing him. I was wondering if anyone else has had this experience before and knows what I should be looking for next.

Seriously, a lot of spinning and a 20-30ft run for the surface.

when i put my sailfin with my scopas, they showed aggression towards each other by trying to put their tails toward each other...I suspected that they were aiming the acanthus (sp?) at the base of their tails towards each other. this was confirmed when i came home one day to find a stab wound in the belly of my sailfin (not huge but about the size you would expect to come from an extended acanthus; the wound healed in about 3 days with no ill effects) and a nice clean cut (split) on my scopas tang's tail. they have come to a truce now, but im sure it took some time to work out their territories.

hopefully your tangs are in love, and not at war

How does one determine the gender of tangs?
