i know that tangs are susceptable to diseases like ich, but are there any that are hardier than others. everyone knows the yellows, but my lfs has one the call a lolli-pop tang? never heard of a lolli-pop, sorta looks like a naso, could they be the same?

Different stores and area's have names for the same fish..can you give a bit more detail?i did a search and did not find a lollipop tang at all..
here is a pic of a " clown tang"
what color is the one you are looking at?, if you talk to the LFS they should be able to give you a few other names hopefully!

I don't think anyone that hasn't already had long-term success with easier-to-keep species of fish should attempt any of the tangs. Tangs, angels, butterflys and other delicate species should only be attempted after some of the easier species of fish have been successfully kept healthy for a long period of time. I really think that people get more satisfaction out of having success with an easier species than failure with a tough to keep fish. After gaining the experience of keeping other species thriving then you will have a better chance with more sensitive fish and they will have a better chance of living to an old age (certainly not just a few months or years).
Best wishes,
Terry B

i have a 72 gal tank with a clown, damsel and lawnmower. the "lolli-pop" at my lfs is brown with orange tipped fins. it sorta looks like an orange-spinned unicornfish that is in one of my books. anyway i think im going with terrys advice and go with the hardier species for now. i know hes right but its hard to resist the temptation of going with the real gems. i think i may add a pair of banggai angels and wait on the tangs. sound good? thanks for saving a tang terry

Brown with orange? Naso is grey with orange "lipstick" and black and yellow on the fins.
Could be a powder brown or a goldrim? A picture or a Latin name would be helpful - common names are so misleading sometimes.

My experience with a tang was ich-o-rama that wiped my tank. Also, he seemed cramped even in a 90g with a ton of open space.
I am sticking to the 5's in the 500+ book until I get a clue how to do this. I think all of our current fish could survive on cheeseburgers they are so easy to take care of (except for the drama queen foxface scaredycat).
