Question

Tang to go with my Hippo Tang?

Hi All,

I need some advice! I have a 125 reef setup with a Hippo Tang as my "display fish" I would like to add another tang but I understand that it is difficult to mix some tangs. I particularily like the convict and desjardini sailfins. What you you folks suggest?

Thanks in advance!

they're pretty much all gonna be a risk.

Typically, you see Hippo's and yellow tangs, so I imagine that would work. But if, like me, you find that combination overdone...then I'd just try any other tang. One you like. (like 'rotties said, it's a risk, but might work).

Personally, I LOVE the Sohal tangs, and the Achilles too!
(those pics are crap...these are actually MUCH prettier fish than those pics show. If you're interested, look for more pics!)

Tell ya one thing dont get clown tang .....i had nice hippo tang with clown tang.Even tho clown tang is pretty. It beat the crap out my hippo and clown fish were both in 180 gallon.Good idea is to stay away from the tang with the same body shape as the hippo tang do to the rish of them fighting.Plus with hippo being a soft skin tang and being what i say most easy to get ick.May be try the Atlantic Blue Tang or Purple Tang I try to keep with a salfin type body tang.
atlantic blue tang Purple tang

My hippo is only about two inches long right now. The tank is still in it's "development" stage. He was my most recent addition. The only fish which is bigger than him is a coral beauty (thus far reef safe) who is three inches long.

The Tangs which I am considering are:

Desjardinii Sailfin
Kole
Convict
Naso

Thoughts?
