taking out rock

Well I am thinking about taking out some of my live rock and re-arranging my tank to better fit new corals, and to not seem so crowded. My wife has wanted me to do this for a while. Anyway, what is the best way to do this. Should I take it all out, remove 3 or 4 pieces, then rearrange? Or should I take 1 piece out at a time, then wait a week, and take another piece out? I don't want to throw off the bacteria and other things like that.

if you remove all rock, your system will die...removeing all slowly can do this, you have to keep some in there..only take about 10-20 % of rock out, not as much as 50% or more. do you have bio-balls, bio-wheels ? or any other biological media running on your tank ?

No bio-balls or anything, just rocks. I want to take maybe 3 or 4 rocks total out. that is probly roughly 20 % or so, so that will work?

Part of the problem is I just bought a few more coral, and want to get a few more, and there doesn't seem to be any room for them. So I am wanting to take some rockwork out, but don't want to go through a cycle or anything like that

ok, then 2 or 3 rocks shouldnt hurt it, but dont do a water change after, wait 1 week or two.

it's a 24g aquapod, and the picture actually looks like the aquascaping and rockwork is just right, but I can't seem to find spaces to add new coral. Maybe I should just re-arrange and try to leave all the rocks

well you have a deep sand bed, that holds alot of your bio-bacteria, would you happen to know exaclty how many rocks you have, honestly i wouldnt think 2 rocks would hurt anything

not sure how many pounds or anything, I had them all in my 55 and downsized to the 24 and just put all of them in the best I could. I would say roughly 25 lbs or so, but that is a pretty wild guess. My 55 was pretty bare looking

The most important thing is to not stir up the sand or remove rocks that are in contact with the sand. The bacteria that grow in sand are anaerobic, they thrive in the absence of oxygen, when you expose them to oxygen they die and create a lot of pollutants. As long as you work slowly and move rocks around the top you will be fine.
