T5's and coralline growth
Has anyone else that has switched their lighting setup from MH to T5's noticed their coralline algae fade over time? I had a pretty thick coating of deep purple coralline on my rocks and the back/side walls of my tank. If left unattendied the coralline would require a jackhammer to remove from the glass. Since my switch to T5's my coralline has faded to faint purple and white and removes eaisly from the glass. My sps on the other hand are doing great, growing well, and showing much better color than they ever did under MH. I'm confused as I thought that lighting that was adequate for sps would grow coralline, and growing coralline has never been a problem for me before.

I've noticed the same thing...I get more light colored and green coralline with my T5's...the best coralline I get is under PC's...lots of purple, pink and red plating too...I have no idea why T5's don't seem to grow coralline as well, especially when corals and clams are doing well under them.

my T5HO's grow a light purple and whitish coraline, also fairly easy to remove. my mag-float removes the center of the colony sometimes...
but it's okay with me, that's why i painted the back of my tank, and it means less work to remove the "unwanted" portions...

I kinda feel the same way as I haven't seen the black back of my tank for 4 years now. I was finally able to remove the growth from the black acrylic overflow covers in my tank this weekend. I do miss it on my rocks though.

What wattage of T5's and bulb selection do you run? How deep is your tank? How old is your tank and what equipment do you use? What was your last set of water perameters?
I'm wondering if what I am seeing is light shock to the coralline and in time it will adapt to the new light source and return.

Will higher PAR inhibit coralline growth?

I have only used PC's, and with them I am getting great coralline growth on my back wall and rocks.

I have a standard 90 gallon, 4ft x 22inch x 18inch, Sps grow like made ( at the top )
Current Sundial T5HO,
2 each D-D Giesemann Powerchrome AquaBlue+ 54W 48 inch
2 each D-D Giesemann Powerchrome Pure Actinic 54W 48 inch
The Pure actinic comes on an hour before and and go off an hour after the Aquablues total light time of 11 hours...
I haven't ran any test latly on water, as I am in the processes of planning a move. I do regular waters changes every sunday 10 gallons and once a month a full cleaning and a 20 gallon change.
this is when I placed base rock through out tank a few months ago... notice all the white
here is one i just took along with close ups of my powerheads....

Your LR looks like mine does now. Nice tank BTW. I'll be curious to see what the corallone in my tank does over the next few months.
