T5 Schedule

Just got my T5 8x54 on my 72 gal bow. What is the best on/off timer schedule for these lights? Not a whole lot in the tank at the moment.

4 Actinic
4 T5 HO
4 Moonlights

Thanks,

-02

Well. That depends, how many sets of lights are there? Are they in sets of 2? or are they 4 to a cord?

Okay. That makes it nice and easy. It depends on when you are vieweing the tank. BUT I would run 8 hours of the 10k lights and I would run the Actinics 1 hour before the 10k and 1 hour after. That would give you sunset and sunrise. Moonlights....the rest of the time is fine. If you get to look at your tank at night.....then your going to want to have some daylight during your viewing time frame. Thats up to you. But I would do a solid 10 hour schedule. Maybe do the actinics an hour and a half before and after, its up to you.

One more question I'm not clear on.

Do I run the Actinics for 10 hours a day and the 10k for 8 hours? Or is it Actinic for 2 and 10k for 8

It's up to you. I leave my Actinics on all day along with my daylights because I like the color better that way. If you decide you want them off during mid-day, you should just make sure to overlap on both ends.

Just to better understand the process, what exactly do the Actinics provide? Is it just the sun up, sun down effect?

Is there any benefit of running them all day?

They will give you better color than just the 10K alone...10K looks too yellow by itself IMO...I also like to put my moonlights on a timer so they only run for half the night or so...then let the tank have a couple hours of total darkness.

the actinics should be lefty on all day ...not only do they produce a dusk dawn affect, they also produce light spectrum that is closer to the light in deeper waters

Actinics should be on when the 10k are on or else you will be running a 4 bulb fixture all day instead of an 8 bulb. Actinics can be supplemental in halide systems but in T5 setups, you need all the output you can get.
