Sweet fan score!

Just thought I'd share because I am so pleased with myself! I have one fan to cool my tank but I needed another small one for the canopy. I was also on a budget. I decided on a computer case fan but most were DC and the one AC I found was 24 bucks.
The folks at the computer store turned me on to a surplus store. I went and discovered about 7000 square feet of junk, only organised, and for sale. They had a variety of computer fans! Varied sizes, voltages and outputs! Sweet! 6 bucks each! They even tested them for me before purchase. Tank doing great!

Nice score!

I use 110v AC muffin fans in my canopy (2 blowing out,1 in) and keep a eye out for deals on 'em since i prob change them out @ prob at 1 a yr or so due to wear n tear on them.
The one i changed last nite (new surplus ) sounded good when i tested it/soldered on pigtail wires to it, but after installing it in the canopy, it was kinda loud for a living room environment setting, so i might disconnect it til i find a quieter one (a lil too much CFM probably, hence the noise) Thought about going the 12v DC route, but have not yet(and temp/speed control prob would be nice)
I always have my eye open for fans when i'm out n about,i've come across my best deals that way

Congrats on your great score!

Thanks Jeff!
Do you think I could use a dimmer switch on an AC fan to slow it down? Mine is a tad strong.

Don't think a regular ol lighting dimmer will work for you. (a lil under rated if anything) Dunno what you would use tho, I'm thinking a speed control , along the lines of a router (power tool type)kind.
i'l look into it, and post what i come up with, unless someone else chimes in here and helps out .
