Sweeper tentacles
I have the worst luck with colt corals. The last one got whomped from almost a foot away by my giant hammer.....
This one got hit by the trumpet coral Caulastrea.

Wow, Greg; foot-long sweepers! My Frogspawn's sweepers only reach out 6-7".
Maybe you need to get that bad boy one of these:
Sorry about your Colt.

LOL That's a great idea.
That anchora can expand well over 8" from the skeleton with it's normal polyps. The sweepers can reach about anywhere in the center 1/3 of the tank (180 gal).

Yikes!
Does it send out the sweepers as a matter of course or just every so often? I have a Frogspawn that only seems to send them out when it gets "riled up"; usually when I add something new in its' vicinity. Which I haven't done often. Then again, my FS isn't even close to your hammer in size yet!

I've only seen the sweepers when I notice something amiss, but that has always been at night, so I may just not notice them otherwise....

SP,
I'm sorry, I should have made it more clear. The sweeper tentacles are being extended by the trumpet coral (Caulastrea) on the left side of the picture as a form of coral aggression. Many species of corals do this to prevent other corals from growing too closely.

Anne-Marie,
What you are probably seeing are Terebellid worms, or " Spaghetti worms". They live within the rocks and send out their thin tentacles in search of food. Don't worry, they are good and only eat tiny stuff.

SP;
Those more than likely belong to some worm or other, just feeding out of the water column or grabbing snacks from the rocks or substrate.

It's not looking good. I moved it to my 'fuge but it's just a lump of tissue. I doubt it will make it.
