swapping 55's?? re-cylce?

im swapping everything except for the sand do you think id re-cycle? i will be replacing my crushed shell with live sand about 40 pounds.

. im getting a new tank with a built in overflow .. sick of hanging things off of the side.

It won't cycle in the traditional sense but the new sand won't have the benifical bacteria that your present sand does and there might be some die off just from moving stuff around. I would treat the tank as a cycling tank and do more frequent water changes. Just my 2 cents worth.

You might get a mini spike from the move but hopefully not a real cycle, but your new sand bed will need a month or so to recolonize with the beneficial bacteria. Using a small amount of the old or removing any worms and such from the old and into the new will help

even if i use live sand? you kow the kind that is in a pakage has the bacteria on it!

Do you mean the package that is in most lfs and petco type places, I don't think that has as much "good" stuff as a cup of your present sand, I would second Doug's idea and put a few cups of your present sand in the new tank, I am fairly sure that the large size won't hurt any.
