Surface scum

Hi Everyone!!
I have a 150 with 40 gallon sump. A hob aquaclear filter(empty) 3 seio ph in sump skimmer and heaters. Ive noticed that since we moved 3 months ago my water doesnt shimmer as much as it did before the move. I'm not sure if its just where its in a different location or if the ph are placed different. I have noticed a thin film of scum on the surface of the water. The hob breaks it up in that area but the rest of the tank has it. Is there something I can do to stop it?
Thanks Patrick

Are you breaking the water's surface at all? That's where your shimmer comes from. Has the height of the light changed at all?

You may need to point a SEIO on each side at the surface (on an angle of course) to get the surface to breaek up. Like Darth said, the shimmer comes from the light hitting the surface of the water and if it is stagnant then there is really no shimmer.

After the move you may not have adjusted the SEIO's the same as they were before...

i never got the scum off the top on any non reef ready tank i had. There was always a little somewhere. Once you have a built in overflow tank it never happens

Once, my return pipe was keeping an area of the surface pushed over away from the overflow and it never got skimmed but once I realized that, I adjusted the return pipe and it allowed the surface to flow like it should and the film on top never returned.

I've got the same problem in my 180 at the moment. The powerheads keep pushing the surface water on the left and right away from my center overflow. I'm thinking I like corner overflows better right now lol. What I am doing to help it (and it is working) is slowly move the powerheads so they bounce off the front glass and push the water in a circle around the tank and into the overflow.
