Question

Supplements

I recently started adding corals to my tank, currently I have a plate, trumpet and green brain corals. I would like to ensure a healthy enviroment. There seems to be tons of options but I want to see what the TRT gods believe are the better supplements out there ie, kalk, etc. my tank specs are posted Thank you.

Carlos,
The only supplements I use are Kalkwasser; B-Ionic, and pH Buffer.
Regular water changes should keep your tank in good health generally but corals do need to have Ca, Alk, and pH in proper balance. Kalkwasser will generally maintain your Ca and Alk levels and B-Ionic will boost the levels if your test readings are low. Since you have Corals that use Calcium in the skeleton building process, then you probably need to use B-Ionic, or a similar product, on a regular basis.

Test your water and begin to add any supplement at less than the regular recommended dosages, then slowly ramp up the dosages over time to achieve the desired levels.
HTH,
Dick

I do the same as Fishdaddy. My only supplements are kalk, and the occasional use of B-Ionic. Everything else is replaced by water changes, and feeding.

...Forgive me, I'm a newbie and I know i'm asking a dumb question, but what exactly does B-Ionic contain? Would you guys reccomend using something to replace trace elements such as iodine, magnesium, strontium, etc... or does fresh seawater take care of this? Thanks!

B-ionic is a 2 part calcium/alkalinity supplement and contains enough trace elements that the average aquarium wont need a lot of other highly promoted stuff. Chemistry isnt my strong suit so I will defer to TD or Horge for analytical data

I like the Bi-onic too. It has quite a few trace elements and is a two part system that makes for low maintenance.
I am for anything that is simple instuctions and low maintenance...hehehe
Renae

You may also want to consider a calcium reactor if you haven't already got one.
