Super Skimmer 125

I have a super skimmer 125 (Coralife) that does a pretty good job. One thing that i've wondered for a while is about it's "burping". Basically, this skimmer has a return line that goes into the bottom of a square plastic cup (meant to minimize bubbles in the sump) which has a foam pad in it. As the skimmer operates, bubbles seem to build up in the return cup and then release. This happens about every 20 - 60 seconds. The negative result is that the foam in the chamber of the skimmer drops about 1".

Hope this makes sense to you that have this skimmer.

The pic I attached is from a while ago but it gives you a visual on what I am referring to.

I have the supper skimmer 220 and was having the same problem. I cut the output tubing was a little too long. I cut it so it's and inch or so from the btm of the little basket and that took care of the problem. I also only left the gray sponge in the basket.
Hope this helps

i did away with the basket on mine, i have baffles in my sump though so bubbles arent really a problem. i didnt like the idea of having a sponge in there

I didn't even take the bubble trap out of the box. Cut the output about an inch above the water line in the sump.

Agree with the above, get rid of the box if you can, the backpressure can also build up and cause overflows. Free flow into the sump would be the best configuration.

Ditto! I did exactly this same thing.
