Sunday

Good Morning all. I can't believe I am the first to start this thread. It is after 7 am here and looks to be a nice day. My older daughter is coming back from Hawaii today so it will be good to hear all about it. We are going to my in-laws to eat Chinese so that will be fun.

Best of the day to you all,

Homer

Good Morning, Homer & All!

Homer, your family sure has had a lot of travel and cultural experiences this past year! That's great!

Cloudy and gloomy looking day on Rocky Top but we managed to escape the ice storms that hit all around us. It did freeze a little bit yesterday morning but quickly melted off.

Last Tuesday, I was able to take off and go exploring in the wilderness of the Cherokee National Forest, part of the Smoky Mountains. One of my old friends had been telling me about a hidden waterfall up there so we seized the opportunity to go. It was snowy and the gravel and dirt roads icy, but the 4WD made it just fine. Good thing, as it drops off steeply on the sides! Yesterday's pic was the 'good' part of the road! It is a beautiful area, very mountainous, and rich in history. We didn't see another person all day once we left the paved roads!

This is another section of the road to the falls as we crossed a mountain. The tracks on the right are bocat; those in the center coyote. This area has bear, boar, deer, wild turkeys, and even panthers, though the official gov't line is that "there are no panthers left". All we saw were tracks.

We passed through some pretty rough neighborhoods!!!

More to come in the days ahead. Wait 'til you see that waterfall!!!

Hope everyone has a Superb Sunday!

Dick

If I borrowed some of your 'meds', do you think I could put 21 - 55 gallon barrels in a barn loft??? Must be some good stuff!

LOL Dick! Ya gotta remember, I'm a long time Pro at this stuff,,,,anyone else would prob lay there and DROOL enuf to fill one of those barrels , after takin my meds!
I take 'em just to move without lookin like a hunched over robot with frozen joints, somewhat pain free, or at least lessened,,,
BTW: the barrels are empty,,,but i still gotta toss them up to the loft floor, bout 10 ft up,,,,

Morning gang, Sunny but cold here, too cold to paint or do much productive. Did a dump run yesterday then spent alot of time with my youngest grandson. Off to the movies today to see the movie version of "Phantom"
Dick, amazing how similar the areas we live in look like, tho we have HUGE pines and a lot of Fir trees and the like, but the lower mountain slopes are rife with several oak and maple varieties, and the occasional dogwood for contrast

Good um, morning TRT! (It is still morning here, though only just.)

Love the pics, Dick; can't wait to see the waterfall!

I've been having so much fun this morning (not!) shopping for insurance. The family plan at work is just outrageous, about $750 per month, and the coverage isn't the greatest either. Figured I could do better getting the family insurance on my own but sheeesh, comparing all the options is a major PITA.

Hope you all have a relaxing Sunday afternoon.

good afternoon folks,

Dick: I was looking on some popo maps for the Rattlesnake gap and found this way to Sevierville from down my way, I think that Cath would enjoy a ride on this road when the pavement is dry and the mornings are sunny!

Patience, Alice; it's a few mornings down the road. Ugh on the insurance!! Doesn't the new job have group ins?

Tom,
I couldn't get the link to open but you would get off at Harmon Den exit and go past Max Patch to Rattlesnake Gap. There are no signs to direct you to the waterfall. The dirt and gravel road will eventually bring you into Del Rio in Cocke County and from there, you can then either turn back to the right and go through Hot Springs, NC, or left into Newport and re-join I-40.

That's for the driver; Cath might need something stronger!!

Doug, right about the similarities, though our trees don't grow as large as those big firs.

Dick
