sump size? 200 G
Well all, here's the first of many questions,,,,, prepping the 200g Oceanic for the move to the basement, sealed the inside of the stand, plan on using either the ol' Oceanic(approx 40g) wet/dry system, tank only ,"gutted" the wet/dry stuff out of it, also have a 55g tank i can use for a sump, the 40g will fit in the stand, have not tried the 55,, the 40g does have 3 holes drilled w/ bulkheads, that's a plus,,the 55 is just a plain ol' tank. plan on using either as a sump, mebbe reverse light it, mainly a place to house the skimmer, heater, etc, think the 40 g is large enuf? the 40 leads in my choice , due to the bulkheads,, wondering on if to use 0ne or two overflows, ideas / brands?? can run two overflows each into sump ,or can tee of into one to the sump,,also, what brand/size of pump? i'm a Mag-drive user now, like 'em a lot,,,wat size you all think i need? Thanks,,,,

Jeff sounds like the 40 is most easily adapted to sump, at least as far as housing the hardware/life support for the tank, but wont leave you a lot of room for a decent sized refugium. Have you thought of using the 55 alongside as a refuge?
What kind of flow rate thru the sump are you thinking about? The faster the water, ie , more flow the more noise
On a tank that size a closed loop might be the hot setup for major circulation

Ya Doug, i tend to think the 40 might be the one to use,due to the bulkheads,,,am gonna try to fold the 55 in the stand,,, might use both! all i can do is try,,
noise is not a issue(water flow) wife says i'm deaf anyway ,
and the silence is deafening when the power is off in the house,
been used to da related noises of our wet pets all these years,,,it's no biggie

jeff,
bigger is always better
but, the main thing is, after you have enough water in your sump tank to allow your pumps to run without sucking in air (watch for whirlpools) or cavitating do you still have enough handle a pump failure / power loss without a flood?????

The 55 isn't so much larger than the 40 anyways, plus the 40 is already drilled if you need that. Will you be putting all the equipment under the tank? If so, a large skimmer 'in-sump' along with heaters, will leave precious little room for a refugium (large enough for a 200 anyway, would be great for a 75).
How about an external skimmer with a reverse lighted refugium in the 40?

Oh, one more thing, if you do use an 'in-sump' skimmer, watch out for the footprint, a 55 may not be deep enough. I recently upgraded one of my skimmers and it is in a 40g, would not have worked if it were a 55. fwiw

Yup BB,,the equipt. is gonna be under the stand, leaning toward the 40 cuz of the holes drilled in it, and have the bulkheads /hoses already,,,still might try to fold the 55 in there too,,and use it as a 'fuge.
plan on getting a sump p. skimmer,,,,anyone got a thumbs up on what they would go with?

BB, the tank that i upsizing from is a 75,,,,i'm gonna try a empty 55 i got,,,,in the stand to see if it fits(plus it's in my work shop , next to the 200 stand), if it works , i might see if i got enuf room for the 75,,, but it doubt it , the 40 was a tight enuf fit, but heck it is a Oceanic wet/dry(gutted) in a Oceanic stand so i figgered it'll fit
PS: i'll get back to ya petaining to the PM from ya,,,,

Hey Jeff, is there any way to modify the new stand so that you have at least one removable end panel. When I built my new one I incorporated that feature cause theres no way to get a 48x15 tank under it other wise

Jeff I read the ordeal too bad, after this stand removable end panels are the way to go. Any reef ready stand should be so equipped

Pray for me!
