sump return plumbing
here is my sump return plumbing. i was wondering if you think it would work this way. Or should i just hard plumb the whole thing? Or just use regular flexible tubing....

Don't ask me why, but I like the flexible tubing, myself.

A flexible bend like that will be much less restrictive than 90* bends of the rigid PVC
Glue it up good and your good to go!

How is that flex pvc attached??? Is it just a friction fit over hard pipe??? If so i would glue it IN the sockets just like you would any other piece of pvc......otherwise you might get a rude awakening when over time it finally decides to fly off of there. You could simply put couplers on both pieces of hard pipe that exist and get the same size flexible pvc and glue it in the couplers. It looks like 1" flex and 3/4" hard pipe........but regardless of what it is the same size piping glued as if it was regular pvc is the way to go. So if it is the size i think it is go 3/4 all the way around.
Even if it IS glued over the hard pipe that isnt how flex pvc is designed to make a trustworthy joint and it needs done differently IMO.
Just something to think about that may save you some water on the floor, maybe jsut saving a slight leak but i have seen flex plumbed incorrectly before that flew completely off as well.

Yes, it is just slid over the pvc pipe. Yes, it is 3/4" pvc and 1" spa flex. i have seen 3/4" to 1" adapters, should i just get them and then glue the spa flex inside of the adapters?
I dont want to come home or wake up to a flood some day

Good point I wasn't really looking at the way you attached the stuff rather just the idea of using the flex tube for the bend vs rigind .....
yes you will need bushing to mate the stuff or just use 3/4 flex spa....if you already have 3/4" fitting then that is the restriction anyways!
The flex slides in and get purple primer and glue just like regular rigid PVC!

Yes the flex pipe goes IN the fittings. : )
Barbed fittings can work as well but they reduce the inside diameter of your pipeline where they are used...personally i hate barbed fittings
A little trick to making sure you get the bend right is before you go to glue take a pen of some kind and mark a spot on the flex pipe and a mark on the fitting so you then prime and glue it, get opne full twist into position lining up your marks.......that will make it so you can be sure you are setting the pipe with the bend as well as get a well sealed joint with the full twist into place.
: )
hth
ps-there are two benefits to using clear primer.
1. it doesnt leave ugly purple streaks all over your plumbing
2. It is hotter, and really works better for melting the plastic when using flex pvc
2 imnportant parts of using flex pvc IMO is lots of primer and glue, marking your angles and always get one full twist into place. Then before the joint sets look at it from two angles to make sure it is seated flush.....if it isnt it can create water or more commonly air leaks which make lots of microbubbles. It tends to not want to sit flush in the jopints so you always have to make sure before the glue sets.
Just have a towel on hand to wipe up the excess glue becasue there should be some if you make sure you do the joints right the first time.

itll work fine .......im just OCD in a big way as far as ugly purple streaks in my plumbing....my dad was a plumber for some high visiblity projects at times and he made me that way. : )
The clear primer is better stuff though for more than just appearance

Ok this helps, but, i think you have me confused on where to make the mark on the spa flex??

Its just a trick to make sure you can get one full twist into place in without having the bend in the pipe going the wrong direction......if you look at your pic you have the bend in the flex going the right way.......imagine it not being connected but sitting as it is and draw a line with a ink pen from the flex to the pipe it hooks into........there...now you know when you glue it in place how far to twist while keeping the bend going the right direction........
make sense??
then you can clean the ink off after youre done with clear primer

you have to look for it....in most common plumbing jobs its code to use the purple stuff so the building inspector knows it was used...stupid as i cant imagine any professional plumber NOT using primer but thats the rules generally anyway. AS well, if you are laying massive amounts of pipe in a hurry it makes it visible so you know it was primed.
